I was invited by a local photography group called CCD (Camera Club of Dubai) as a mentor in one of their photo shoot in my favorite location, the abandoned village in Ras Al Khaimah. I was not actively shooting since I have to help a few other people with their camera settings but it was really a nice experience. Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 85mm f1.4 Settings: f1.4 | 1/250 | ISO 100 Post process: Dodge and burn Hue and […]

Finding a good angle is not easy; you have to constantly move and work with your model. I was lucky that Alex (model) is such a great model and knows how to improvise 🙂 Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM Settings: f4 | 1/250 | ISO 100 Strobist: 580 exii + 60″ collapsed umbrella on camera right @ 1/16 power Trigger: 7D’s built in trigger Post process: DRI’d 2 exposure for the background Dodging and burning Blending […]
One thing I learn about doing an environmental portrait is that, when you do your composition, you have to already take note of what post kind of process you’ll do. Knowing the look you wanted before taking the shot will help a lot in post production. Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS HSM Settings: f6.3 | 1/250 | ISO 100 Strobist: 580exII + 60″ umbrella collapsed on Camera top left @ 1/16 power Post process: Curves Adjusments Hue […]
This portrait was taken in a very unlikely place, anyway… those three holes are broken windows which nicely frames the surroundings of the place. This place offers a lot of grungy textures. This was shot in one of the abandoned villa in Ras Al Khaimah. It was a fun shoot and I would like to thank our model, Alexandra Lyubimaya, who’s very fun to work with. She’s our model, our stylist and make up artist! Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma […]

Shot at Ras Al Khaimah inside the abandoned village. Light and shadows always work hand in hand in any photograph… That’s the first thing to look for in my opinion when taking a photograph, then adding lines and textures would be the second. Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 8-16mm Settings: f10 | 1/50 | ISO 100 Post Process: 3 exposure blending (DRI) Curves adjustments Dodging and burning Color balance adjustment Cheers! /Mike
This was taken at the Abandoned Village in Ras Al Khaimah in the morning. The clouds were thick and looks like there’s a storm coming, although the only storm we get here is sand storms (at least in Dubai). I edited this picture with the intent that I wanted it to look like it was a setting from a video game, hence the 3d look 🙂 Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 8-16mm Settings: f8.0 | 1/15 | ISO 100 Post […]
I was shooting with my photo buddies Eugene and Henz; took this on the way back to the car, the place isn’t really ideal for this kind of shot but great light nonetheless. Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 8-16mm Settings: f10 | 1/160 | ISO 100 Post process: 3 exposures DRI’d Dodging and burning Curves adjustments Cheers! /Mike
