365 Project : Day 127

Taken from Madinat Jumeirah Souq.  I have a shot of this same location around 1 year back;  this was taken around sunset where the sky is really nice. This is also the first time I am using Photoshop CS5 and so far so good 😀 Gear: Canon 7D + Tokina 11-16 f2.8 Settings: f5.0 | 1/15 | ISO 500 Post Processing: Selected the 3 exposures and “Merge to HDR Pro” using Photoshop CS5 (very impressive and realistic) Adjusted contrast Dodging […]

365 Project : Day 114

This is one of the newest mall around… Mirdif City Center.  Taken a few hours ago.  I kind of like this mall, because there’s a lot of photography related stores and its less than 10 minutes drive from my place 🙂 Haven’t done an HDR image in a while, and I thought this particular image will work better in HDR. Gear:  Canon 7D + Sigma 10mm f2.8 Settings: f7.1 |1/80 | ISO 100 (+-2EV AEB) Post process: Aligned and merged […]

365 Project : Day 104

Got this one on my way home;  Today was cloudy and there were sprinkles of rain.  This is the transition of weather towards summer here in Dubai. Gear:  Canon 7D + Tokina 11-16 f2.8 Settings:  f4.5 | 1/30 | ISO 100 Post process: Used 3 exposures and blended them together manually (DRI) Dodging and burning Adjusted contrast Applied some blending modes One more day to go before weekend! /Mike

365 Project : Day 100

This is my 100th picture for my 365 project.  I have posted 100 pictures everyday since January 1st of 2010 😀 I am a fan of color, you can see that on rest of my 365 Project, however on this picture, I wanted a muted look.  I processed it in dual tone.  Just an experiment and playing around with muted colors.  This was taken at high noon around 1pm or something, it just appeared dark because of my 10-stop B+W […]

365 Project : Day 061

“The fastest way to succeed is to double your rate of failure.”  – Thomas J. Watson, President and founder of IBM. I think what he wants to say is that, failure always precedes success.  When we fail, it only means we are trying, and if we double the rate of our failures, then it only means we are really trying hard to achieve success, which eventually will be the end result of all our efforts.  Anyway, I took this on […]

365 Project : Day 060

This is our office building in Dubai Internet City.  It’s a cool looking building if you ask me 🙂 The weatherman predicted rains the entire week, although it didn’t rain till now but, maybe later.  Sky is gray and cloudy, it does really looks like it’s going to rain.   I took shots of this building many times but I don’t like how it looks, until now, the fisheye lens gave me the look I was looking for 🙂 Gear: Canon […]

365 Project : Day 054

I got a new addition to my family of lenses.  Sigma 10mm f2.8 Fisheye lens 🙂 I missed shooting architectural subjects and I confess, I miss HDR.  I haven’t done HDR for almost 2 months now.  I just wanted to check if I still have the skills to create one.  Alright, back to regular programming, this is one of the malls here in Dubai, named Dubai Festival City.  Almost all the malls here are now on promotions because of Dubai […]

365 Project : Day 002

This is day 2.   This is an old Mosque in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. This project forces you to go out and experiment.  It is exciting in a way, but I have 363 more pictures to go! Here’s how I took it: Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 10-20 Settings: f8.0 | -3,0,+3 exposure bracketing Post processing : Aligned and tone mapped in Photomatix Cleaned up in Photoshop CS4 (Curves, dodge & burn, contrast) Added texture and made the texture white […]

Forgotten Windows

Another one from Jazirat Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaima, UAE.  This is an abandoned village, also referred to as “ghost town”, according to locals there, it was an old fisherman’s village. I really have no idea whatsoever on what this room was before they abandoned the place.  All I know is that, those 3 windows caught my attention. Here’s how I took it: Settings: f8 | 3 bracketed shots 2EV +/- @ 20mm Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 10-20mm […]

Kalesa : A closer look

A closer look at the Kalesa. I asked the Kutsero’s (Kalesa Driver) permission on this shot.   Taken weeks ago on my vacation from Manila. Hope you like it. How I took this shot: Gears: Canon 7D + Sigma 10-20mm, hand held Settings: f9.0 | 1/100 | 3 shots (AEB) Post process: 3 Images, aligned, converted and tone mapped in Photomatix Cleaned in Photoshop CS4 Anyway, thanks for your time! /Mike
